Goldendoodle Training Rye, NY“Molly is doing great!!!!! We are so happy with her and she is the sweetest and most obedient dog we could wish for!”

Molly is a sweet one year old goldendoodle from Rye, NY who completed 2 dog training programs with us. Molly came to us a very happy, goofy pup with no real behavior issues, just an owner who has the passion to take his dog all through life, obediently! Molly originally enrolled at Wk9, in our three week basic on leash dog obedience course. Her owners had already decided to do a future refresher course and ecollar work before she had even come home! After her first stay, her owners practiced and brought her everywhere and were loving their life with her!

Molly came back and spent another three weeks with us and is now an off leash reliable dog thanks to all of her family’s hard work! This sweet girl now gets to enjoy off leash freedom and her owners are able to include the ENTIRE family on all of their adventures!

German Shepherd Dog Training Yonkers“Westchester K9 did an exceptional job in training my dog. I would highly
recommend them to anyone that’s looking for obedience training, as well as house manners. Thank you guys!”

Shadow is a 9 month old German Shepherd from Yonkers NY and recently completed our dream dog training program. Shadow was so distracted on leash he would pull his owners all over. His owner said he has a lot of energy and only obeys when he wants to. Shadow has anxiety, can be reactive towards children, and did not know how to settle down. We spent five weeks with this kid exposing him to all that we could and also
training him to be off leash!

The ecollar not only gives Shadow off leash freedom, but it also helps with his reactivity. The ecollar is so helpful for reactive dogs because it allows us to be consistent which is the number one rule in dog training! With a more structured routine, rules, and calming exercises, Shadow can finally start to relax!

“It’s wonderful to have our Cosmo home! He is well behaved and has learned so much. He loves to please . He has about mastered staying on all four legs. He walks well without his leash … whereas before he dragged me everywhere we went. His chewing on furniture has stopped and he’s much more of a joy to have around. Thank you to all at Westchester K -9”.

Cosmo is a year old Labradoodle from Bedford Hills NY who was becoming a little mischievous! This big boy would jump on his visitors, pull on the leash and wouldn’t respond when called or given any commands. Cosmo was also exhibiting some fearful anxiety at home according to his owners.

All it took was a little communication and consistency! Cosmo went through our five week dream dog program to be off leash trained! Once Cosmo had had a clear understanding of what was expected of him on leash, we transitioned him to all ecollar! The ecollar allows us to communicate with Cosmo gently and consistently to reinforce all his commands. When you build on your relationship with your dog and learn to communicate properly, the e-collar is a great tool to allow your dog the freedom of being off leash and a super happy pup!!

Labrador Retriever Training Bronx NYOtis is an almost 2 year old Labrador Retriever from The Bronx, NY. Otis’ owners contacted us at Wk9 while they were away on vacation. Otis was staying at a local PetSmart for boarding and unfortunately they got numerous calls about his endless energy; and due to the fact that they cannot drain his energy, he is resulting in biting the co-workers and even to the point of tearing a co-workers shirt off. “I admit, he is a hyper dog! He is 1 and he’s 80-85lbs so he is a big boy! He’s a very friendly dog but also very hyper. He’s great one on one but when it comes to social environments and I guess other dogs and people, he’s a mess lol”.

Wanting Otis to be the best he could be, they decided to enroll him in our 5 week dream dog program. Otis is just a fun loving goofy Labrador Retriever. This big guy was getting a little mouthy and very pushy with everyone in the house, he would take his owners for long walks around the block, and even managed to get himself banned from the pet store. He was jumping on guests and not playing appropriately with other dogs. Otis isn’t a bad dog, but was missing some structure. He came to us with some obedience under his belt so we took that and brought him to the next level, off leash training. With the help of the ecollar, Otis’ owners can now consistently reinforce all of his commands while next to him or at a distance to keep him out of trouble.

Otis will be coming back to us for boarding and rest assured, his owners can now enjoy their vacation without getting any calls, except maybe to say how wonderful he is doing!! Now that Otis is back home, his owners wanted to let us know…. “He is doing fabulous at home thus far and we are truly grateful for the training he received at K9”.

Shepherd Mix Training for Yonkers NYCWhen this family from Yonkers contacted us about their beloved Shepherd mix Oliver, they didn’t know what to do and were on edge all the time. Oliver is a 4 year old rescue who his owners said “was a good dog except when people came over. He barks and has bitten people but he is not nasty, he is scared of everything and took a long time to warm up to us”.

His owners sent him away for training last summer with little results. Instead of giving up, they contacted us at Westchester K-9 and gave training for their boy another chance. Oliver had severe fear aggression and was having a hard time living day to day in his own home because of noises like water bottles being crinkled, pots and pans hitting the counter, and so many other things. Our number one goal with Oliver was to expose him to everything and anything we could! We would muzzle him for safety and went out as if he wasn’t afraid! Soon enough, the scary noises got less scary and he would even fall asleep in the busiest room in our kennel! Facing our fears is not always easy but with a little help from friends can mean all the difference to a dog like Oliver!

Oliver has been home for a couple of weeks now and his mom wanted to let us know that Oliver has been great!! “The few people he met, he was very good and calm and stayed on his bed. He seems much calmer and happier overall. I want to thank you all. I can’t tell you how happy I am for Oliver, hated seeing him scared all the time. THANK YOU!!!”

sharpei-pitbull-dog-training-goldens-bridge-nyCarle is a 4 year old Sharpei/pitbull mix who resides with his family in Golden’s Bridge NY.

Carle is what we call a resource guarder which is when a dog shows aggression when he/she has something of high value such as food, toys, bones, etc. This type of behavior is very serious and should be treated by a professional. Carle also barked aggressively at people and was not very good on a leash. His family opted to send him to our 5 week dream dog e-collar program.

The first step in addressing Carle’s guarding was building a relationship and teaching obedience. Once we have that foundation and are able to communicate, we started working on his guarding. Carle was taught a leave it and an out command. You want to be able to ask your dog to leave something alone without growling and if he already had an item, he was also taught to drop it with the out command.

This is still a very serious behavioral issue so whoever is handling him must be patient and careful! The trend for all training is consistently working each day to overcome any issues and to build better habits and an overall better and trusting relationship!

Carle’s owner is extremely happy with their new boy; “Carle has been doing a great job on the leash, he is very popular on walks and he is doing a great job with “out”. Now he doesn’t even growl! I say “Carle out”, and he looks at me like “what is my tasty treat alternative?” As soon as I return with a treat, he abandons his contraband happily”!

Ranger is a 1 year old lab mix from Briarcliff Manor. He was newly adopted through our friends at Pet Rescue into a loving family of four. Since it was their first family dog, they sent him to us to start out his new life!

“We are so thankful to you for helping us get off to a great start with Ranger! He’s already following commands like a pro!!”

Ranger spent three weeks with us learning the basics to be a little gentleman in his new home. Ranger is a very confident, happy, and smart pup who loves to learn and cuddle his favorite humans. This boy has an entire family who can’t wait to work with him everyday to have a long life filled with communication and structure!

dalmatian-puppy-training Rye NYHere is Penny with her family from Rye NY. Penny is the 8 month old Dalmatian puppy and comes from a household with three other dogs. Penny’s mom contacted us here at Westchester K-9 saying, “Penny is showing some rough behavior to the little ones and we need some help managing it”. She wasn’t playing nicely with one of her dog siblings. So, like all of the dogs who come to us, we started her on some basic obedience.

Each dogs needs are catered to, while they are training with us. After a solid foundation was learned, and since Penny was having a hard time with toys around her siblings, we worked with her and toys around our other pups. We showed Penny it was okay to have something to chew while with other dogs but we also taught her to leave her toys when we asked. As important as it is for Penny to obey her commands, it is just as important that the other dogs in her family have some structure as well. Penny may have been the only pup from her family to come to WK9 for training but Penny and her siblings will all benefit by having some rules!

Penny was able to join her family after our 3 week board and train a much happier pup, with a lot less stress!

Dog Training For The BronxMeet Remi, the 4 month old Doberman from The Bronx, NY! Remi came to Wk9 for a 3 week stay and train needing guidance with leash walking, house training and basic in home manners.

“Our dog was having problems jumping on people entering the house , pulling on the leash and running off with our family members belongings.”

The foundation of basic obedience and a variety of commands, will help Remi to make better decisions.

In situations where Remi would rush to the door to jump on his new guests, his owners are now able to send him to place, where he must stay and wait for his next command.

Stealing family belongings is truly an art. When supervised, the leave it command will help teach Remi there are things he’s just not allowed to have.

Living in The Bronx, leash walks used to be very distracting for Remi but also dangerous. Pulling on the leash can seem harmless in some situations but with traffic all around and a puppy doing nothing but growing and getting stronger, it was time to take action. Remi learned how to walk on the leash nicely and sit each time he stopped walking.

“We just had our first board and train session with Westchester K9 and we’re really impressed with the improvement our Doberman Remi had after just one session. The techniques that Westchester K9 uses show results right away and are easy to follow.”

When you consistently reinforce such good behaviors, we are building good, life long habits.
